The current version of our about page is here. This older one is still good reading.
We’re an old school small boutique company. Founded in 1992, we approach our work as craftspeople taking great pride in what we do. And we like to have fun. We’re incorporated but we ain’t no corporation, know what I mean?
Founder Jerry Whiting learned PostScript from developers at Adobe back when he worked for Aldus many moons ago. Jerry applied his newfound knowledge to printing barcodes (don’t ask, he’s weird like that). His late nights at the kitchen table* were published by the ElseWare Corp. (a.k.a. Ben & Clyde) as The ElseWare Barcode Kit. After ElseWare’s marketing agreement expired, Jerry released it under the Azalea Software banner. The world hasn’t been the same since.
“Why Azalea?” you ask. Because Squid totalled the car in Azalea OR (97410), it begins with an “A”, people tend to shop alphabetically, it’s kewl to have “z” in high tech company names, and our name gives no clue as to what we do. It also makes for a really nice logo and I love flowers. Besides, after 16 years it’s too late to change.
Enough, enough with the stories. Read the real about us page here.
* said kitchen table has come full circle over 19 years; it’s now my desk!
