Barcode fonts are the best way to print barcodes. Bar code fonts work with laser printers like HP LaserJets, inkjet printers, and some dot matrix printers. Printing with barcode fonts is faster than printing with graphic-based tools. Bar code fonts print faster because they're optimized for speed at the printer level. Bar codes made with barcode fonts can be created on the fly as opposed to pre-made bitmaps. Using barcode fonts to print barcodes means no graphic file needs to be created or stored.
Azalea's barcode fonts come in TrueType, Type 1 PostScript, and PCL format and are available for Windows, the Macintosh, Linux, UNIX, and other platforms. We wrote a white paper about why barcode fonts are better than graphics. Check it out.
A good intro to barcode fonts is our white paper on how to make barcodes. Two other white papers focus on barcode fonts: printing better barcodes and sizing barcodes. Enjoy!
