Code 39 is a common bar code symbology that can be read by almost all barcode scanners. Sometimes called Code 3 of 9, Code 39 is used for ID, inventory, and tracking purposes. The Code 39 character set includes both uppercase letters and numbers and several math punctuation marks. Code 39 barcodes can vary widely in height and width, can encode variable-length strings and require no check digit. (An optional mod 43 check digit is available but very rarely used).

The name Code 39 is derived from the fact that three of the nine elements that constitute the barcode are wide elements, while the remaining six are narrow. Code 39 was developed by Dr. David Allais and Ray Stevens of Intermec in 1974. The width ratio between narrow and wide can be chosen between 1:2 and 1:3

C39Tools includes twenty-seven different Code 39 fonts in TrueType and Type 1 PostScript formats. Choosing between the different bar code fonts allows you to design the Code 39 barcode for your label, report or document with absolute precision. C39Tools supports alphanumeric Code 39 barcodes. To learn more about C39Tools read the C39Tools documentation.

We’ve got extensive sample code available to make multiple barcodes within your Crystal Report, your Excel spreadsheet or an Access database.
