Interleaved 2 of 5 bar codes are used throughout the shipping industry. Interleaved 2 of 5 barcodes are found on the sides of corrugated boxes and are also used by the medical industry and in laboratories. Interleaved 2 of 5 has a numeric-only character set and is very compact because every pair of numbers is mapped to one character. This makes the symbols much denser than Code 39 in most cases.
Interleaved 2 of 5 barcodes are used in warehouses and throughout the global supply chain. The shipping, freight, and distribution channels are full of ITF barcodes on labels, forms, invoices, bills of lading, etc. Interleaved 2 of 5 bar codes are used on containers, corrugated boxes, cartons, and pallets, and are part of many shipping specifications. They're also utilized in laboratories and by the medical industry.
Interleaved 2 of 5 (ITF) encodes numeric data, numbers only. It's a compact symbology because every pair of numbers is encodeded by only one character. Therefore Interleaved 2 of 5 barcodes offers 2:1 compression ratio. Your input data has to be an even digit strings long. If you input a data string that’s an odd number of digits long, I2of5Tools automatically corrects the error by adding a leading zero. The odd digits in your input string are encoded in the bars and the even digits are encoded in the spaces. The bars and spaces are interleaved hence the name Interleaved 2 of 5.
Azalea's I2of5Tools software includes with two barcode fonts. One is normal width and the other is pre-narrowed to compensate for ink spread during the printing process. It's foolproof!
