OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. Optical character recognition is the mechanical or electronic translation of images of handwritten, typewritten or printed text (usually captured by a scanner) into machine-editable text. OCR-A or OCR-B fonts are used wherever these error-free machine-readable symbols are required. OCR-A and OCR-B are a recognizably text-based font, and different from other character recognition symbols like MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition), which is used on checks.
First patented in Germany in 1929, OCR-A symbols have a squared-off, ‘geometric’ look. Its European counterpart, OCR-B, was designed in 1968. The United States Postal Service has been using OCR machines to sort mail since 1965, and many industry specifications call for an OCR-A or OCR-B font.

Azalea OCR-A/B License Types
Azalea OCR-A/B is $199 US per Single User License for Windows or Macintosh operating systems, $299 per Linux/UNIX system. A Single User License covers installation on one computer and never expires.
2, 5 and 10 year Site Licenses are available for Azalea OCR-A/B. Site Licenses cover unlimited in-company installations for 24, 60 or 120 months. A 2 year Site License is $595 US, a 5 year Site License is $995 US and a 10 year Site License is $1,795 US.
We also offer Azalea OCR-A/B Commercial Redistribution Licenses, which allow you to incorporate Azalea fonts or other components into your commercial product or service for resale. Commercial Redistribution Licenses are $2,500 US for a 5 year license term.
