Printing Bar Codes in UNIX

bar code software for UNIX

UNIX users can print Code 128, UPC, Code 39, and Interleaved 2 of 5 bar codes using our C128Tools, UPCTools, C39Tools, and I2of5Tools font collections.

These UNIX packages include our fonts in both Type 1 PostScript and TrueType format. Our PostScript fonts are in PFA (Printer Font ASCII) format.

GCC compiler

Printing bar codes is a two-step process: encoding your input string and formatting that string in our bar code fonts. The first step involves adding the start and stop bar, calculating any necessary check digits, and mapping the output into our fonts' character set. All of our UNIX font packages come with an encoder that can be run as a command line utility or compiled into your own applications.

RedHat Linux, Fedora

We used the GCC compiler under Redhat (Fedora). Contact us if you need recompile under a different flavor of UNIX or any other OS for that matter. Doing so will net you one or more of our kewl tshirts.

Start by reading each UNIX product's documentation:
  - C128Tools (Code 128)
  - UPCTools (UPC, EAN, Bookland, ISSN)
  - C39Tools (Code 39)
  - I2of5Tools (Interleaved 2 of 5)
