Making UPC bar codes is quick and easy with UPCTools. UPCTools can be used to make one or one hundred barcodes, one at a time or in an automated batch mode.
Once you have your company prefix from the GS1 US, you're ready to create your own UPC bar codes. Your company prefix together with the unique item number you assigned to each of your products is used to create a UPC barcode. In other words, the first portion of your UPC number is your manufacturer's number given to you by GS1. The latter portion is the number you give each SKU.

UPCTools includes an easy-to-use wizard utility for making one or two bar codes at a time. Type in your company prefix and item reference numbers, copy the answer to the clipboard, and then paste the result into your target application. Create, copy, and paste.

To make a new UPC bar code from scratch you need to obtain a company prefix number from GS1 and then assign a unique item reference number to every item you sell. The company prefixes are administered by the GS1 US and are used for the left portion of all UPC bar codes. This insures that all bar codes are unique and no one uses the same number for someone else's item.
The length of your company prefix plus your item reference number must equal 11. If your company prefix is 1234567 you can assign item references numbers in the range of 0000 to 9999 (7 + 4 = 11). If your company prefix is 123456789 you can assign item references numbers in the range of 00 to 99 (9 + 2 = 11). UPCTools calculates the necessary check digit, the 12th digit in a UPC bar code.
If you're trying to reproduce a UPC code, either you have an existing bar code in front of you or you have an 11- or 12-digit number. (The 12th digit is the check digit.) If you are recreating an existing symbol merely input the 11- or 12-digits from the bar code into the UPCTools utility or as the input for any of our sample code. We calculate the check digit and create a string of text, that when formatted in our fonts, makes the same UPC bar code.

2, 5 and 10 year Site Licenses are also available and cover unlimited in-company installations. A 2 year Site License is $595, a 5 year Site License is $995, and a 10 year Site License is $1,795.
