When most of us look at a barcode, we see a picture rather text. We think "graphics" not "fonts".
Here at Azalea, we see the pattern of bars and spaces as letters that represent the individual characters in the barcode. When we look at a bar code we see a chunk of text formatted in one of our symbol fonts. The bars and spaces are like letters in a word.
Why fonts? When you need to save barcode as a graphic, be sure to use the correct file format. Don't save it as a GIF, TIF and JPEG. These bitmap formats tend to yield lower quality barcodes that won't scan as well. We strongly recommend that you save your barcodes in an EPS or uncompressed PDF file, at highest quality. Another plus to EPS and PDF files is that you can share them with anyone, your coworkers, your printer, your graphic designer, regardless of the platform or application they're using.
